AT&T National: Round 3 Notebook PGA TOUR Staff BETHESDA, Md. -- Stuart Appleby has been a leader or co-leader after 54-holes six other times in his PGA TOUR career. He converted four of those six into wins.
Stuart Appleby is the only player who will have the opportunity to post four rounds in the 60s at Congressional Country Club. K.J. Choi has five career victories on the PGA TOUR to equal the total of all other Asian-born winners in TOUR history. Shigeki Maruyama has three career titles while Isao Aoki and T.C. Chen each won once. Earlier this year K.J. Choi closed with a 7-under 65 at the Memorial Tournament. He was five strokes back of the lead heading into the final round and went on to win by a stroke over Ryan Moore. It was his only come-from-behind victory of his five TOUR titles. Steve Stricker is solo third, three strokes back of leader Stuart Appleby through 54 holes. He has recorded four top-10 finishes and is 21st on the FedExCup points list and the 2007 season money list.
Mike Weir is alone in fourth after 54 holes, four strokes back of the lead. He is looking for his first top-10 since a solo sixth at the 2006 PGA Championship. Of his seven PGA TOUR victories, Mike Weir has come from behind to win in six of those. The only time he held a 54-hole lead went on to win was at the 2004 Nissan Open. His largest come-from-behind victory was the 2003 Nissan Open, where he began the final round seven strokes back of Charles Howell III and posted a 66 and later defeated Howell in a playoff. Tiger Woods is T8 with a 2-under 208 total. He is seven strokes back of 54-hole leader Stuart Appleby. Below is a list of Woods' 54-hole comebacks on the TOUR.
