The 36-hole co-leader Garrett Willis (SM) holds the first 36-hole lead/co-lead of his PGA TOUR career. Earlier this season, he was tied for second through 36 holes at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, but fired 75-72 on the weekend to finish tied for 46th. D.J. Trahan (TC) who shares the lead with George McNeill and Garrett Willis has held one other 36-hole lead/co-lead during his career on the TOUR. He had a two-stroke lead over Brad Faxon and Joe Durant after 36-holes last year at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic. He went on to win in Madison, Miss., in a three hole sudden-death playoff over Joe Durant. George McNeill (TC), who is making his 32nd career start on TOUR, shares the second-round lead for the first time in his career. Coming into the week, his career-best position after 36 holes was a tie for 10th at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Nick Watney (sixth) and D.J. Trahan (tied for first) were paired together in the first two rounds. Together they compiled 21 birdies, three eagles and two bogeys. John Daly's 9-under 63 on Friday at TPC Summerlin is just one stroke shy of his career best score, which is a 62 in the second round of the 2001 Invensys Classic at Las Vegas at the TPC The Canyons. His only other round of 63 (Round 3) came at the 2001 FedEx St. Jude Classic. His 63 on Friday also included an 8-under 28 on the back nine, tied for second lowest 9-hole total on TOUR in 2007. Duffy Waldorf (SM) at 9-under 134 has now made 17 career cuts at the Frys.com Open, matching Donnie Hammond's record for the most cuts made in Las Vegas. Since the start of the Fall Series, Michael Allen, who made the cut with a 6-under 138 total, has made the biggest jump on the money list from 154th place to 93rd, a gain of 61 spots. Justin Leonard has improved 58 positions while Jesper Parnevik and Steve Flesch have each gained 45 places. Johnson Wagner has moved up 44 spots and Chad Campbell 42. Two players -- Duffy Waldorf and Kent Jones -- have not posted a bogey through 36 holes. Joe Ogilvie (SM) posted three eagles on Friday on Nos. 3, 15 and 16 en route to a 7-under-par 67. He made a 47 feet 2 inch putt for eagle on the par-4 15th hole. Ogilvie is the second player this week and third player on TOUR in 2007 to record three eagles in a round -- Bill Haas posted three eagles on Thursday at TPC Summerlin and Hunter Mahan accomplished the feat in the first round of the Canadian Open. Defending champion Troy Matteson (TC) fired rounds of 69-73 and missed the cut. He is the 10th defending champion to miss the cut this year. |
