Pick: Carl Pettersson
The Swede hasn't done much aside from a tie for eighth at the Verizon Heritage the week after the Masters. But, he returns to the Memorial Tournament as the defending champion, which could have him walking in with the confident swagger he'll need to turn things around. Pettersson's problems in 2007 have been with a wayward driver -- he ranks 151st on TOUR in driving accuracy, hitting just 56 percent of his fairways -- and a suspect putter, where he's got a 1.818 putting average which ranks 144 on TOUR.

Pick: Carl Pettersson
The defending champion at the Memorial has been gliding along since a season-best tie for eighth in the Verizon Heritage. That 122nd ranking in the all-around stat is problematic but this week could prove the antidote to the blahs.

Pick: Jonathan Byrd
Byrd currently leads the TOUR in sand save percentage which is a nice skill to have with the Memorial Tournament's furrowed bunkers. He's also coming off two top-20 finishes in his last three starts, including a tie for 16th at THE PLAYERS Championship. Byrd hasn't exactly done well at Muirfield Village in the past, with three missed cuts in four starts, but the two-time PGA TOUR winner could have a strong showing this week.

He's only played here twice, but he tied for 12th in that second try and made the cut in the first. We know he's got the game. He's also had time to rest up from a long spring when he kept catching everyone's eye. Yes, he's put that 17th hole at THE PLAYERS behind him. Can we?

He tied for sixth at 11-under par in his only start at the Memorial in 2005, so the pleasant memory vibe will be in his favor this week. Plu,s he finished 66-68-67 in Fort Worth to tie for 12th, another good carryover.

Pick: Johan Edfors
The field is too good for sleeper picks. According to the rules, a sleeper has to have actually been asleep for the past month to be eligible. With that in mind I am picking Johan Edfors because he wears Puma. Maybe he will sneak up on somebody this week.

Pick: Tim Clark
The young South African generally plays well on difficult courses, and he was right in the mix last week at Colonial until a third-round 74. Clark tied for 18th at the Memorial last year and has another top-20 to his credit in just four starts at Jack Nicklaus' tournament. Look for him to build on last week's tie for 12th and contend again.

Pick: K.J. Choi
It's hard to believe that a guy who ranks 18th in scoring average hasn't been more effective, but Choi just hasn't put it all together yet. He tied for 24th last week at Colonial, a place where he has played decently in the past, but never caught that hot streak that separates contenders from the crowd. A couple of top-10s at the Memorial suggest he has the goods to do well at Jack Nicklaus' joint. We'll see.
