Mar. 17, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. -- After three rounds of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Vaughn Taylor holds just the second 54-hole lead of his career. His previous third-round lead was at the 2005 Reno-Tahoe Open, where he won in wire-to-wire fashion.

Ben Curtis (2) and Tom Lehman (T3) have the opportunity to post four rounds in the 60s. In the 28 years at Bay Hill Club and Lodge, only four players have managed to string together four rounds in the 60s in a single event.

Andy Bean was the first to accomplish the feat when he won the 1981 tournament. He was followed by 1984 runner-up George Burns, 1987 winner Payne Stewart and 1987 runner-up David Frost. During the 1986 and 1991 tournaments, three others -- Dan Forsman and Raymond Floyd in 1986 and Andrew Magee in 1991 -- were on their way to four in a row but were sidetracked by bad weather and 54-hole tournaments.

• Ben Curtis has six top-10s in 99 career starts on the PGA TOUR with three victories (2003 British Open, 2006 Booz Allen Classic, 2006 84 Lumber Classic).

Vijay Singh and Vaughn Taylor matched the low rounds of the day at 3-under-par 67. After an opening round of even-par 70, Singh has moved from T46 to T3 with rounds of 68-67.

• Only nine of the 79 players broke par on Saturday with 19 players posting rounds of 70 or better.

• Five players among the top-10 are over the age of 40 -- Rocco Mediate (44), Stephen Ames (42), Jerry Kelly (40), Vijay Singh (44) and Tom Lehman (48). There have been only four previous winners over the age of 40 in tournament history: Ben Crenshaw (1993/41), Arnold Palmer (1971/41), Kenny Perry (2005/44) and Julius Boros (1967/47) on that list if successful this weekend.

• Several players need to rise in the Official World Golf Ranking with good finishes on Sunday to earn a position into the World Golf Championships-CA Championship next week. No. 63 Shaun Micheel is currently T5 and needs to finish third or better, while No. 75 Vaughn Taylor is currently first and need to finish second or better. No. 80 Tom Lehman is currently T3 and must finish second or better, while No. 95 Sean O'Hair is currently T17 and needs to win.
