AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am announces charity money raised MONTEREY, Calif. -- Monterey Peninsula Foundation, host of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, has announced that $6.13 million was generated for charity by the 2007 tournament. This brings the total to over $66 million which has been raised for hundreds of nonprofit organizations throughout Monterey County and surrounding communities since the tournament came to the Monterey Peninsula in 1947. "Charitable grants from the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am have enriched our community in countless ways over the past 60 years," Monterey Peninsula Foundation President & CEO Ollie J. Nutt said. "The Monterey Peninsula Foundation has been able to make a significant impact thanks to our strong partnerships and the work of over 2,000 volunteers." Monterey Peninsula Foundation grants are awarded year round with a focus on programs which benefit arts and culture, community and environment, education, health and human services, as well as youth. The tournament came to the Monterey Peninsula following World War II having first been played in 1937 in Southern California at Rancho Sante Fe when Bing Crosby brought together a "few friends." The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, as it has been known since 1986, is an official PGA TOUR event played on Spyglass Hill, Poppy Hills and famed Pebble Beach Golf Links, the host course. Leaders from the worlds of entertainment, sports and business are teamed with top players from the PGA TOUR who will be vying for a $6 million purse the week of February 4-10, 2008. The 2007 tournament was won by Phil Mickelson, his second victory at Pebble Beach.
