Mickelsons forced to evacuate home because of wildfires Phil Mickelson and his family are among the more than 500,000 people who have had to evacuate their homes due to the wildfires raging in southern California. Mickelson's wife, Amy, and their three children left their hillside Rancho Santa Fe estate Monday and went to the family's San Diego beach home. Mickelson, who was in New Jersey playing in a corporate outing at Baltusrol, joined them that evening. The fire threatening the Mickelson's home is the Witch Creek fire. It entered the Rancho Santa Fe area near The Crosby, an exclusive golf club, and then endangered The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe, which hosted the made-for-TV Battle at The Bridges for several years. "The Witch" has burned over 145,000 acres in northern San Diego County. More than 500 homes reportedly have been destroyed and another 250 damaged. According to a source, the flames have come within a mile of the Mickelson's home. The strong Santa Ana winds, which have blown in excess of 70 mph at times, fueled the wildfires but are expected to wane on Wednesday. Hot, dry conditions will remain, however. LaDainian Tomlinson, the San Diego Charger who was the NFL MVP last year, was also among the evacuees, according to the Associated Press. |
