(WireImage) Steve Flesch carded a final-round 73 on his way to claiming the title at the inaugural Turning Stone Resort Championhip. This is Flesch's second win of the 2007 PGA TOUR season (Reno-Tahoe Open). By winning the 2007 Turning Stone Resort Championship, Flesch joins an elite group of players who have multiple PGA TOUR wins this year: Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson, Zach Johnson, and K.J. Choi. Beginning with a T5 finish at the U.S. Bank Championship in late July, Flesch has earned $1,990,612 on the PGA TOUR in his last seven events. The 40-year-old Flesch claims the ninth victory by a player in his 40s on the 2007 PGA TOUR. So far this year, there have been more wins by players in their 40s (nine) than players in their 20s (seven). Flesch becomes the first left-handed player (other then Phil Mickelson) to claim multiple PGA TOUR titles in a single year since Mike Weir was victorious three times in the 2003 season. Flesch led the tournament in the all-important Greens in Regulation statistic by hitting 64 of 72 greens on the week (88.89 percent).
John Senden, the 2006 John Deere Classic champion, carded the round of the day (67) and in turn recorded his third top-five finish of the 2007 season on Sunday (T3). David Branshaw, a native of nearby Oswego, NY, birdied the final three holes on Sunday to finish T13 at 11-under-par 277. This is Branshaw's best PGA TOUR finish since finishing T4 in his last trip to Atunyote Golf Club for the 2006 B.C. Open presented by Turning Stone Resort. Michael Allen's runner-up finish ties the best finish of his PGA TOUR career (2nd, 2004 Wyndham Championship). Allen's runner-up check for $648,000 assures the veteran that he will be a member of the PGA TOUR in 2008. Drive for show and putt for dough? Allen entered the week T128 (1.803) in Putting Average for the 2007 PGA TOUR. Allen finished 4th in Putting Average this week (1.667) and did not record a single three-putt until the 72nd hole. PGA TOUR Rookie John Mallinger recorded his second third-place finish of the 2007 season (3rd, AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am) and has now carded 10 of his past 12 rounds on TOUR under par. Nick Flanagan, who earned his PGA TOUR card via the Nationwide Tour's three-victory promotion this year, carded a respectable final-round 68 and finished T18 in his first TOUR start as a member. Flanagan had to birdie the par-5 18th on Friday, his final hole, just to make the weekend.
The most difficult hole for the tournament was the 230-yard par-3 11th, which played to an average of 3.229. This figure makes the it the 30th most difficult par-3 on the 2007 PGA TOUR. Atunyote Golf Club ranks as the sixth easiest course to date on the 2007 PGA TOUR:
While the first three rounds at the Turning Stone Resort Championship yielded low scores, Atunyote Golf Club earned its revenge on Sunday with a final-round average of 72.557. This is the 16th most difficult final-round scoring day thus far on the 2007 PGA TOUR. |
