Nation's top-ranked amateur Kirk turns pro

SEA ISLAND, Ga. -- Chris Kirk, the nation's top-ranked amateur and a member of the victorious United States' Walker Cup team, has turned professional and will make his pro debut at the PGA TOUR's Viking Classic next week.

Kirk, who graduated from the University of Georgia in May, will be represented by Crown Sports Management and has moved to Sea Island, Ga., where he will play out of the Sea Island Golf Club.

The former SEC Player of the Year from Woodstock, Ga. has also signed a multi-year deal with Titleist as a full-staff member. The 22-year-old was named the 2007 Ben Hogan Award winner as the nation's top college/amateur player.

"Chris has the potential and work-ethic to build a wonderful professional career." said Jimmy Johnston, who will represent Kirk for Crown Sports Management. "From high school through college he has received high academic honors as well as athletic praise. His well-rounded character and successful amateur career is a great stepping stone for the future."

Kirk will also compete in the Frys.com Open October 8-14 in Las Vegas

In addition to Kirk, Crown Sports Management represents Brian Bateman, Jonathan Byrd, Joe Durant, Lucas Glover, Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Chris Stroud, Brendon de Jonge, Johnson Wagner and Boo Weekley.

During his amateur career, Kirk qualified for three U.S. Amateur competitions and two weeks ago compiled a 1-1 record as a member of the victorious United States Walker Cup team.
