Fans Congratulate Austin

Jun. 11, 2007

Editor's Note: Woody Austin won his third PGA TOUR title at the Stanford St. Jude Championship on Sunday. Here are some of the e-mails PGATOUR.com received congratulating Austin, who gets to head to Hawaii for the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship in 2008.

We are from Orlando, Florida, and are sending you our congratulations. You won well, played well, and above all, accepted your win with great humility. What a role model! Thank you for your contribution of a fine win! God bless. Keep winning! Duane and Dorothy

Congrats Woody. It just makes one feel good that a man in his 40s can still win on the PGA TOUR. I'm 43, and no, I'm not a PGA TOUR professional, but I was sure rooting for you. Good luck in the FedExCup this fall! Rob

Great round! You stayed in the moment and made everyone around Wichita and Derby very proud. Congratulations! Mike

Just wanted to write you and say congratulations on an amazing round of golf. I am a member of Derby Country Club and have seen you out there a couple times. Currently, I am in the Middle East for 120 days serving our country in the USAF. I stayed up until the early morning hours out here just because I knew you were close to the lead in hopes of making a Sunday charge. I'm happy I did. Thanks for a great memory and a wonderful round of golf. Hope to see you at Derby upon my return in mid-September. Good luck at the Open! Robert

How good can it get? The Stanford St. Jude winner was on fire! You made so many birdies that you could hear the chirping on every hole. Congratulations Mr. Austin! Bill

You the man. You have way more fans than you know, and you came out and shot the best Sunday round of the year to win. Couldn't be happier for you. Know that you deserve it. Ryan

Congratulations on your super win. Very impressive round of golf. I have been watching and pulling for you after learning of your vision trouble. It has been a long road to victory but one that is, I imagine, more gratifying. Good luck for the rest of the season. Howard

I followed you for the last two days. You are an inspiration to me for your perseverance and your attitude. I'm 50, so I can relate to your challenges. It was fun to watch, and I wish you the best for the rest of 2007! Kevin

From one "over-the-hill-at-40" guy to another, congratulations! Your final round was one of the greatest last 18 holes I have ever watched. You are a great example for people our age. Don't ever give up your dreams and passion. Great job, and good luck at the U.S. Open. Kendall

Great day, great finish! It was so much fun watching you win the St. Jude. For all of us who still have a dream and have reached a certain age (I'm 52), it gives us all hope. It was your hard work and sticking with it. Congratulations on a great TOUR win. Now go win the U.S. Open. Andy

You continued to believe, improve and stand firm. Thanks for your inspiration. And, keep on wearing those colorful shirts. Ron

Congrats on your latest win. All those hard hours and dedication to your craft have proven you a winner. You're a delight to watch, and you deserve this greatly. Andy

Way to go, Woodrow! A win for us pluggers. Great to watch. I've always enjoyed watching you play. Keep pecking at 'em! Joe

What a great win and inspirational story to golf worldwide in 2007. You have proven that with hard work, perseverance and belief in yourself that anything is possible. My wife wrote a book called "Life Is A Do Over," and you are proof that at anytime, we all have a chance at a do-over. Best wishes at the U.S. Open, and thank you for inspiring us all. Jim

You rock. I've been a big fan of yours for many years. Two words sum it up best: Aloha, brudda! Have fun in Hawaii. Brian

Keep up the good play. We old guys (I'm 82) really like to see you veteran players who came up the hard way come up with a big win. Harold

You played an amazing, truly amazing, last round! After your eagle I thought, "This guy really wants to win!" Did you have that feeling when you went out as well? Like "let's do it!" or something? I must say, what a win! What a winner! What a player! You certainly gained a new fan from Sweden this week. Best wishes in the future. Fredrik

I was a walking scorer at Innisbrook, and you were in my group. You were one of the nicest players that I have scored for. It makes me happy to see a nice guy take the prize. Congrats! Trudy

It was wonderful to see you play so well. I am convinced that by getting out of your own way you demonstrated the key to many more victories in the future. Maturity is a great tool in our arsenal as we begin to understand ourselves. Also, I thought your caddy did a great job supporting you in the chat we were able to hear during the telecast. Brian

Congrats! Great day for the Austin family. Jeff and Hilary
