Nationwide Tour Graduate Q&A archive

Editor's Note: Ron Whittaker finished 11th on the 2007 Nationwide Tour money list. He won the Chattanooga Classic presented by Black Creek in October. He parred the final hole to win by a shot over David McKenzie, who had finished with four rounds in the 60s.

Whittaker sat down recently with PGATOUR.com's Dave Lagarde for a game of 10 questions.

1. If the PGA TOUR allows music on the first tee what song will be used to introduce you?
Whittaker: Hit Me with Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar.

2. You have the power to alter any rule in the game of golf. What is it and why do you want to change it?

Whittaker: I'd allow players to repair spike marks. I don't see why they should be able to affect play.

3. What was your most embarrassing moment on a golf course?

Whittaker:I split my pants this year when playing the ninth hole. I walked behind everybody the rest of the way in.

4. Who would you most like to hit balls next to next year, and why?

Whittaker: Glen Day. He's one guy I know I can hit it past.

5. Do you have any oddball superstitions? If not, what's the strangest one you've heard of?

Whittaker: I mark my balls with a quarter from the 1960s. I have a whole stack of them at home.

6. When your putt rolls in to win your first PGA TOUR title, will you go with the Tiger fist pump, the Mickelson mini-vertical jump or something a little crazier?

Whittaker:I like the chicken dance Rich Beem did when he won the PGA Championship at Hazeltine.

7. Other than winning a tournament, what would make next year a success?

Whittaker: Finish in the top 30 and make THE TOUR Championship.

8. You've been granted a 60-minute sit-down with any figure in the world of golf, living or dead. What's your first question and to whom would you address it?

Whittaker: Arnold Palmer. I want to know how he came up with the Arnold Palmer, the drink with lemonade and iced tea.

9. What is your wildest golf dream?

Whittaker:I can't get the ball off the tee. I either miss it or if I hit it, it reacts like the ball is a marshmallow.

10. What is the most valuable lesson about your profession you learned on the Nationwide Tour?

Whittaker: Learning how to win.
