Consistency helps Kresge make Colonial a positive experience

With all the weather delays, the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial was a trying week for everyone involved. But few players handled the stops, starts and uncertainties more consistently than Team Nationwide member Cliff Kresge.

The 39-year-old New Jersey native carded scores of 69-67-70-68 to finish his four rounds at 6-under 274, in a tie for 29th place with six other players, among them former British Open champion Ben Curtis and fellow Team Nationwide member Brandt Snedeker. Among Kresge's most impressive feats for the week were carding just a single bogey in his final round, and bouncing back from that lone bogey with three birdies on the back nine to climb up the scoring chart.

The closer to the green Kresge gets, the better he seems to play. For the year, he ranks 87th on the PGA TOUR in Driving Distance with an average of 285.0 yards per poke and 125th in Fairways Hit, with an average of 58.17 percent per round. But he ranks 47th in Putting Average, needing only 1.778 putts per green. He's also 32nd in Eagles, with six to his credit in 990 holes played so far this year.

Kresge had no eagles at Colonial -- no surprise given the conditions there -- but his 14 birdies for the week ranked him 38th in the field. His driving stats mirrored his season-long stats, as he averaged 282 yards off the tee and hit 60.7 percent of his fairways. More impressive, he hit 73.6 percent of his Greens in Regulation to rank tied for 15th in that crucial category.

Kresge now has made four cuts in a row, and has risen to 81st in the FedExCup point standings with 2,373 points and to 82nd on the money list with $528,038. He's played 15 tournaments so far this season.
